Ambassador Hemanth K. Singh, Director General of Delhi Policy Group (DPG) and Ambassador Biren Nanda, Senior Fellow, paid a visit to the Pathfinder Foundation (PF) head office recently. Director General Singh was welcomed by Chairman PF, Bernard Goonetilleke, Executive Director Luxman Siriwardena and Director, ‘Centre for Indo Lanka Initiatives’ and ‘Centre for the Law of the Sea’ Admiral Prof. Jayanath Colambage. Among matters discussed were recommencing steamer services between Tuticorin and Colombo Port and the Dhanushkody/Rameshwaram ferry service with Talaimannar connecting the railway network. These services should be re-established for pilgrims and tourists with least cost.

Notes on the draft ‘Code of Conduct’ released by the ‘Centre for the Law of the Sea’ of PF in early January and the Indian perspective on the proposal; dynamics relating to Codes of Conduct in the South China Sea and the Djibouti and Yaoundé Codes of Conduct for East and West Africa, adopted through the International Maritime organization, were exchanged.

PF has succeeded in establishing relationships with a number of Indian think-tanks. Founded in 1994, the DPG undertakes research and organizes conferences and interactions across a wide canvas, including strategic and geo-political issues, geo-economic, defence and security issues. The delegation was in Sri Lanka to take part in the Regional Conference on “Advancing BIMSTEC Cooperation” held in Colombo on 2-3 August.
