Football tourney in Kandy

A football tournament for clubs is to be held in Kandy where over 20 teams will be in action. A meeting to finalise plans is expected to be held and the tournament will be conducted under the auspices of the Central Province Sports Minister.

Not a single football tournament was held in Kandy for two years and even the AGM of the controlling body was not held while the Football Federation of Sri Lanka was dormant.

Sports drive in Kandy

Sports promoters in Kandy together with Chief Minister Sarath Ekanayake are teaming up to deliver a programme, which is expected to reach primary school students. The programme will see physical education trainers armed with knowledge and equipment necessary to introduce sports move into primary schools.

Geetha Bandara makes Kandy proud

Geetha Bandara from SWRD Bandaranaike MV Kandy is the only girl who has got the opportunity to represent the Sri Lanka under-15 women’s national football team which is at present on a tour in Bhutan for the SAFF.

Trinity rugby squad in NZ

Trinity College’s rugby squad of 23 players is currently in New Zealand on a 45-day training tour under the watchful eyes of some top academy coaches. The tour has been arranged by the Old Trinitians Rugby Scrummage headed by Siva Subramanium under the guidance of coach Inthi Marikar and manager Kavinda Jayasinghe To make this tour, the old boys, parents and sponsors gave a big hand.

Hillwood U-17 netball runners-up

Hillwood College Kandy were placed Under-17 runners-up in the 27th All-Island Schools Netball Championship played at the Bogambara Stadium in Kandy recently. In the final they were beaten by Musaeus College 30-19 and in the Under-15 segment Buvenakabahu Balika Vidyalaya emerged as champions when they beat Sujatha BV Matale 22-3.

England in Kandy

England’s cricketers will be in Kandy to play two ODIs and a Test match as part of their tour of Sri Lanka. They will play two ODIs in Pallekele on October 17 and 20 and a Test match from November 14 to 18.
