5th SPACE visual art exhibition

SPACE Visual Art Exhibition by contemporary Sri Lankan women artists, will open at the Art Gallery at the Department of Fine Arts, University of Jaffna, on August 28 at 3 pm, with the start of a performance art piece.

The exhibition is organized by - Kalai Vattam of the Department of Fine Arts and will be open till August 30 from 9 am to 7 pm.

Curated by Janani Cooray, SPACE will showcase the talent of twenty-four female graduates from The Faculty of Visual Arts of the University of Visual and Performing Arts (UVPA)—earliest graduating in 1970 and the latest in 2019. Achala Gunawardana, Amitha Indirani, Chithra Surasena, Darshani Jayawardana, Deepa Alahakoon, Dammika Sudharshani, Harsha Manojani, Hemamali Henakaarachchi, Ishani Ranaweera, Janaki Nadeeshani, Janani Cooray, Lasanthi Kaluthanthrie, Manori Gamarachchige, Niluka Weerasinghe, Omali Radika, Sajeewani Hewawitharana, S.D.Sithara Priyadarshani, Shamila Priyadarshani, Sumudu Irangika, Sunethra Damayanthi, Tharanga Gayathri, Veena Beauty, Wilasini Dissanayake and Yathindra Rathnayaka will present their paintings, sculpture, installations as well as performance artworks. “Build up” is the Theme of 2018 SPACE Exhibition.

Making a space for creativity, expression and engagement as professional artists, for the 5th consecutive year SPACE has kept graduate women artists of UVPA under the limelight, stopping them from disappearing into stifling domestic roles such as, daughters, sisters, wives and mothers.
