 Public Services club cricket

The 72-year old Kandy Public Services Club’s annual cricket Sixes will take place on Sunday September 2 at the Police Ground.

This is one of the most looked forward to sporting events of this club. Excise Department, Water Board, Kandy Police Kennels, Education Department, UDA, District Secretaries Department, Kandy Doctors and Public Service Sports Club will take part in the tournament.

The winners will receive the Sri Richard Aluwihare trophy.

Suresh best lifter

Kandy YMCA’s Suresh Jayatissa took the first place and best lifter’s award in the Snatch 90kg, Clean and Jerk 115kg totalling 205 kgs at the Sri Lanka Intermediate Weightlifting Championship held on August 12 at the Torrington indoor stadium.

Senaka is Al’Azar cricket coach

Al- Azar has signed up a new coach in Senaka Dissanayake, who is in charge of all teams form under 15 to senior levels. He was one of the finest batsmen to come out from Dharmaraja College.

Senaka has good experience in his job and has produced good players and teams. He played for the Sri Lanka Schools Under 19 team which toured Australia in 1984 under leadership of Aravinda de Silva.

Lasantha rugby chairman for the 18th year

Lasantha Wijasuirya will continue as the Kandy SC Chairman of Rugby for 18th year. The former St. Anthony’s College player led the Nittawela club to win the triple in1997. They were unbeaten in all three tournaments, under the guidance of Nimal Leweke’s coaching.
