Northern Chief Minister C V Wigneswaran will consider either forming a new party and continue his politics or exert pressure on the government to win rights of Tamil people through a non political organisation with local and international support, the chief Minister said during a speech yesterday.
He further went on to state that Tamil National Alliance (TNA) has deviated from it’s strive to fight for the rights of the Tamil people and are now deviating from their main cause.
He also expressed his intentions to either join with another political group that shares same values and objectives or to form a fresh party under his leadership. “I will take a decision at the appropriate time,” he said.
According to the inside sources of TNA, the biggest Tamil political party of the country and also the main party in the opposition of the parliament is expecting to nominate Mavai Senathirajah the leader of Illankai Tamil Arasu Kachchi (ITAK) as their next Chief Minister candidate. The controversial Chief Minister of the Northern Province, Wigneswaran had recently written a letter to the Opposition and TNA Leader R. Sampanthan, seeking zero participation of TNA at the Presidential Task Force (PTF) Meeting on Northern Development and it was unanimously rejected by TNA members, showing the dispute between Wigneswaran and TNA.
“First of all Chief Minister himself should make up his mind to contest for a second term. If he is ready, we are also ready to discuss on bringing him through an alternative front against the TNA candidate” said Suresh Premachandran, leader of The Eelam People’s Revolutionary Liberation Front (EPRLF), confirming the current political atmosphere of the North.
“But this is not only about Wigneswaran, we are anyway going to form a broad alliance against TNA targeting future provincial and national elections. Local Governmental Polls clearly showed that people in the North are rejecting TNA. Their voter base has already decreased by 35 per cent.
Therefore people are very much keen on an alternative political front” Premachandran further explained.
According to the sources Tamil People’s Council established under the guidance of C.V. Wigneswaran, Suresh Premachandran and GajendrakumarPonnambalam (the Leader of All Ceylon Tamil Congress ) are in this coalition of toppling the TNA political monopoly in the North. However speaking to the Sunday Observer, V. Anandasangaree, the leader of The Tamil United Liberation Front (TULF), the oldest Tamil party of the country, said that they are in a process of strengthening TULF for upcoming Northern Provincial Council Elections. “We will never ever sit together with any party who had an undemocratic political background. At one point TNA was supporting the LTTE and LTTE was supporting TNA. People have forgotten that history. We arewilling only to absorb democracy admirers into the TULF” he stressed.
