Sharmal and Anika too strong at National finals

Sharmal Dissanayake and Anika Seneviratne won the men’s and women’s Singles titles of the National Tennis Championship that concluded yesterday at Sri Lanka Tennis Association courts in Colombo.

The defending Men’s champion since 2016, Sharmal Dissanayake squared off against a former champion Dineshkanthan Thangarajah and won in straight sets 7-5 and 6-1 while Seneviratne beat Anjalika Kurera 6-1 and 6-3. In the men’s Doubles final the duo of Shamal Dissanayake and Alex Fairbanks beat Dineshkanthan Thangaraja and Heera Ashiq 6/2, 7/5 while in the women’s Doubles final Anika Seneviratne and her sister Alana beat Janali Manamperi and Savini Jayasuriya 7/5 and 4/2 with the latter pair retiring from the match.

In the Under-18 girls Singles final Savinia Jayasuriya defeated Janali Manamperi 7/6 (4), 6/4.
