Sri Lanka made it to the final of the Asian Netball Championships 2018 after triumphing over Hong Kong 55-46 at the OCBC arena in Singapore yesterday.

Despite putting on a strong fight, Hong Kong were unable to stop the Sri Lankans who won the first quarter 14-13 points. Sri Lanka got into the action again and this time they secured the second quarter 15-10.

The third quarter gave Sri Lanka the advantage due to the towering Tharjini Sivalingam as she was able to shoot all the goals while Hong Kong struggled to stop the goal-shooting. The third quarter ended 12-10 in favour of Sri Lanka.

The fourth and final quarter too was dominated by Sri Lanka when they finished in style 15-12. Sri Lanka team coach Thilaka Jinadasa said hard work paid off with some excellent performances by the players.

“Our goal attackers and defenders did a fine job and the excellent shooting of Tharjini helped us to take the lead each time. The players were mentally and physically very fit and I was very impressed throughout the tournament”, she said.

Hong Kong will compete for the third place.

Sri Lanka will compete in the final at 4pm today and the team also qualified for the World Cup in the UK next year.

Sri Lanka will meet Malaysia or Singapore in the final.
