A filip for school cricket

The Minister of Education Akila Viraj Kariyawasam said that steps have been taken to prepare and implement a special program for the promotion of school cricket for school children throughout the country who have the abilities and talents for the game of cricket.

The Minister stated this while participating in the cricket skills development training program held at the auditorium of the Ministry of Education organised for school cricket coaches and school cricketers.

The Minister further said that since the duty of political leadership is to hand over the responsibilities to the experts in the relevant field and to provide necessary assistance for implementing those tasks successfully, the expertise was obtained to prepare and implement a suitable program for the promotion of school cricket.

He also expressed his gratitude to them for their voluntary representation in the task.

This program was organised with the guidance of The Minister considering the suggestions submitted in the National School Cricket Promotional Plan 2018 – 2020 prepared by the committee that comprised experienced cricketers, cricket coaches and instructors, officials of the Sri Lanka School Cricket Association and the officers of the Ministry of Education.

Lectures and discussions were led by Sidath Wettamuni ‘The art of batting from school matches up to first rank matches’, Mahela Jayawardana ‘Development of young cricketers’ and Ruchira Palliyaguru ‘Honesty, discipline and leadership in cricket’. In addition, Jayantha Senevirathna expressed his ideas on ‘Experiences of school cricket training’. A member of the Sri Lanka School Cricket Association explained the future of school cricket.

The officers of the ministry including the Secretary of Education Sunil Hettiarachchi and a group of representatives from the Sri Lanka School Cricket Association also participated.
