Group of 15 invited to SLFP CC meeting

16 September, 2018

Despite threats to take disciplinary action against the 15 SLFP members, for taking part in the Janabalaya Colombata protest, they have been invited to attend the Central Committee meeting due to be held on Wednesday, September 19 under the party leadership, Group member S.B. Dissanayake MP confirmed to the Sunday Observer.

President Maithripala Sirisena will mainly focus on the progress of the party reorganisation and measures to strengthen the party to face future elections successfully at the meeting, SLFP General Secretary Prof. Rohana Lakshman Piyadasa told the Sunday Observer yesterday.

He said at present the restructuring process of the party is progressing steadily. A committee will be appointed to decide on the policies of the party, while emphasis will be on rectifying shortcomings, if any, of the reorganisation process. Discussions will also be centered on the role of the SLFP in the present political scenario.

Prof. Piyadasa said the agenda for the Central Committee meeting is yet being prepared. Asked whether disciplinary measures against the SLFP Group of 15, will be discussed, he said it has not been included in the agenda, but it may be taken up. “All 15 of us have been invited to attend the Central Committee meeting and we will attend,” MP Dissanayake said

The SLFP General Secretary said though a decision had been taken at the previous Central Committee meeting to appoint a Committee to study the 20th Amendment to the Constitution presented by the JVP, it did not materialise. Therefore, the Central Committee meeting might discuss this as well.
