Vietnam President’s passing away

President Maithripala Sirisena extended his condolences to the state and people of Vietnam following the passing way of Vietnamese President Tran Dai Quang on Friday (21). He was 61 years old.

President Sirisena said he was deeply saddened to hear of the fellow-president’s demise. “My condolences to his loved ones, the government and the people of Vietnam,” he said in a tweet yesterday.

Vietnamese state media stated late President Quang was seriously ill for months, and succumbed to the illness at a military hospital.

Quang took oath as president in April 2016 after serving at the Ministry of Public Security for over four decades.

According to Vietnamese media, his last public appearance was at a welcoming ceremony for Indonesian President Joko Widodo, in Vietnam, last week where he appeared feeble.
