Matheesha Wijesekera, a student of Royal College Colombo is currently on the rise in squash after moving on to a higher age group to win the third runner-up place at last week’s SSC Open squash tournament.
He is only 10 years old but contested the Under-13 event at the SSC Open after becoming a champion in the Under-11 category.
Earlier, Wijesekera was runner-up in the Under-9 age group at the Premadasa Open Squash Tournament last year and then went on to bag the second place at the 28th Junior National Championships that same year.
Wijesekera’s personal coach Lal Wickremasinghe believes that he has the potential to rise up further in the competitive ranks.
He is coached by Deen at Royal College with Sameen Sandaruwan as his personal fitness trainer.
