Sri Lanka rugby Sevens player Jason Dissanayake has got into the bad books of administrators after it was reported he skipped the Asian Sevens citing “family reasons” only to travel with his Kandy Sports Club team to play in a tournament in the UAE.

Chief rugby selector Rohan Abayakoon has conveyed to Sri Lanka Rugby that Dissanayake will not be picked to play in the national team for the rest of the year meaning he will be out of contention for the second and third legs of the Asian Sevens in South Korea and Colombo as well as the Afro-Asian Sevens in Dubai. Sri Lanka Rugby is also contemplating imposing a fine on Dissanayake saying they will not tolerate or condone any acts of indiscipline as they have invested large amounts of money to prepare the players for international tournaments.

Players from Kandy Sports Club have a notorious history of being in conflict with Sri Lanka Rugby either preferring to play for their club which pays them heavily or going against the national governing body for political reasons.
