Sri Lanka won the Red Bull Campus Cricket World Final with a scintillating last-ball win at the SSC ground in Colombo yesterday.

The home team (Business Management School or BMS) required 58 runs off the last three overs while chasing down a target of 212 in 20 overs against India’s favourite Marathwada Mitra Mandal College of Commerce (MMMC) who were in firm control for much of the game.

Big-hitter Ranitha Liyanaarachchi produced a brilliant finish by hitting a six over deep extra-cover on his way to 26 not out off 14 balls.

The chase had been set up by opener Dineth Thimodya, who hit 54 from 34 deliveries.

Although BMS progressed at almost 10 an over through the first half of their innings, they were forced to slow down by MMMC’s disciplined slow bowlers.

Of the six Campus Cricket World Finals, two have now been won by Sri Lanka, three by South Africa and one by India.

India (MMMC College) 211/2 off 20 overs (Shabbir Murtaza 76 not out, Yash Nahar 58, Divyang Hingekar 46 not out)

Sri Lanka (Business Management School) 212 for 6 (Dineth Thimodya 54, Supeshala Jayatilleke 29, Hashan Dumindu 28, Rohan Damle 4/30)
