Former Olympic silver medalist Susanthika Jayasinghe kept Sports Minister Faiszer Musthapha and other officials waiting for nearly one hour as she was due to attend a ceremony to bestow on her the consultancy job offered by the Ministry.
The function was scheduled last Friday to start at 11.00am but she turned up almost one hour late. Speaking at the function she said she was looking forward to her new role saying “now it is my turn to offer a good service to the country’s sports.”
Not offering any apology for her late arrival Susanthika said that she was still involved in national politics and saw it as her duty to support good leaders even though political influence could damage the sport.
But Minister Faiszer Musthapha said that Susanthika was “a good example for all young athletes of the country”. “She had gone through many difficulties to come up the ladder in life” said Minister Musthapha.
