A schoolgirl contesting an event called the Nuwera Eliya Regional Open Golf Championship showed some signs of things to come when she won the girls segment by five strokes.
The tournament was held at the Nuwera Eliya Golf Club and 15-year old Kayla Perera from Ladies College in Colombo presented a good display at the Today Stroke Play as she opened her round with a fantastic Eagle on the first hole.
She ended the round with a birdie on 18 to end up at one under on Day One. She had 1 Eagle, 5 Birdies, 7 pars, 4 Bogeys and a Double on Day One. On Day Two she had it a little more difficult and it was a tad harder to convert some tough Birdies opportunities.
Kayla played a pretty steady game with a couple of hiccups. She had 2, Birdies,10 pars, 5 Bogeys and a Double on Day Two to end up at 5 over.
Organisers said Kayla’s performance was pretty good and she won the Girls’ division by 5 strokes. The tournament was open to junior golfers (boys and girls) who had not reached their 19th birthday on September 2, 2018.
