Mitra Innovation plans to expand its business to East Africa and ASEAN and is in discussion with various business groups, company officials said at the launch of its annual leadership and strategy program in Colombo last week.

CEO and Co-founder of Mitra Innovation, Ashok Suppiah said the company plans to increase its workforce comprising local and foreign employees. Currently they have a team of 200 and it will be increased to over 300.

“We help customers to visualise what technology looks like. We personally inspect every foreign project under us and are proud to say that our clients are very pleased with our work,” he said. COO and Co-founder, Mitra Innovation, Derek Bell said, “Along with our main offerings, digital transformation and cloud integration, we will launch a new service called DevOps.” The DevOps service will help large enterprises to manage their IT infrastructure. It would also further innovate how they create added value to their customers. The new service will meet the demands of the telecommunications and financial services sector.

According to Co-founder and Managing Director, Mitra Innovation, Dammika Ganegama, one of the biggest challenges faced by them is recruiting employees. This is due to the lack of practical skills that the ICT sector needs. “About 90 percent of the applicants were rejected last year, the majority being degree holders.” He emphasised the fact that changes need to be made since we are competing with other countries. Thus they have made further plans to cooperate with universities and schools.

“We have also created frameworks to make people specialise in their jobs. If we don’t create value to our customers’ business then we don’t have any advantage in our business,” he added.

By setting up Agri-Tech, the company plans to facilitate the agricultural sector. Agri-Tech is a service which is built around the IoT (Internet of Things). It could be used to monitor all agricultural activities, thus increasing productivity of all concerned parties. They said that this feature will aid not only Sri Lankans but all parties who are interested.

They have reached a breakthrough in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Reading with their product Praedictio. Praedictio is a business prediction framework for small and medium sized organisations. It delivers insights and predictions by analyzing business data across different repositories in an organisation. Praedictio can run on-premise, or on any cloud platform, Ganegama said.
