Jaffna was all lit-up and sparkling as the Dialog Super League football tournament got underway with a curtain raiser match between New Youngs Wennappuwa and Super Sun SC Beruwela at the re-commissioned Alfred Durayappa Stadium last Sunday.

A large crowd from all walks of life witnessed the match which was not short of excitement and fanfare as both teams played their hearts out and gave spectators what they came to see and the contest ended in a 1-1 draw.

The way both teams played no team deserved to lose and perhaps fittingly the match ended in a draw.

Overall in the first half New Youngs made some spectacular moves as they raided their opponents’ territory and scored midway for a 1-0 lead.

Resuming in the second half, Super Sun went on the offensive and made several scoring attempts and ten minutes before the end scored the equalizer much to the relief of their fans.

A spectacular fireworks display took place after the match. Spectators were also treated to a bonus match that followed when the Jaffna home team Singing Fish confronted Great Stars from Beruwela in the final of the Division Two Premier League. Singing Fish lost the contest 2-1.
