People’s Bank marks World Thrift Day

People’s Bank marked the 2018 World Thrift Day by reiterating its commitment to instill the savings habit in people, as it guides customers towards a financially secure future.

Deputy General Manager, Retail Banking, People’s Bank, Ms. Jayanthi Kurukulasooriya said, “When one thinks of a savings bank, People’s Bank is a name that comes to mind as a trusted institution with a golden history of over five decades.

“Our savings products and services are backed by strong deposit mobilization efforts which encourage more people in Sri Lanka to save a small proportion of earnings every month in their savings accounts.

“This not only enables them to fulfill their financial needs in the future, but also ensures becoming financially self-sufficient. We consider World Thrift Day as an important day on which we remind customers about the importance of savings and financial prudence.

“Our digital platform makes the act of savings simple and could be accessed at the touch of a button. The habit of savings also improves financial management skills of the individuals Our customized savings accounts cater to all ages ranging from infants to senior citizens are well accepted by the customers due high returns they receive and trusted credential of People’s Bank,” she said.

The Bank strives to attract customers from early age - as reflected in the school savings units, it operates across the island’s rural and urban areas, to encourage students to save and to familiarise them with mainstream banking, a spokesman for the Bank said.

The People’s Bank’s first-ever ‘School Banking Unit with CDM’ extends banking facilities to students with enhanced convenience and safety, while inculcating the savings habit.‘People’s Relax’ account allows the customer to decide the age from which they should receive retirement benefits and the time period/frequency they would like to receive it. The Bank’s ambitious digitalization drive will empower it to deliver a seamless digital experience to customers and elevate Sri Lanka’s banking and financial services to an international digital platform.

People’s Bank is also responding to evolve customer needs by offering mobile banking and internet banking facilities through its islandwide branch network to facilitate a ‘cashless society’. People’s Bank recently opened its 200th Self Banking Unit at the Railway Station premises in Kankesanthurai. The Bank also launched ‘People’s Wave’ - its state-of-the-art mobile app, which offers an exclusive Digitalised Banking experience to customers.
