Kandy Sussex champs for fifth time

Kandy’s Sussex College did well to win the inter-Sussex badminton championship held at the Thomian indoor stadium in Mt. Lavania. This win was the fifth consecutive. The champion team comprised some top badminton players who are guided in the proper way by coach Darshana Bandara.

Spinners clinic for juniors

The KDCA coaching committee has made arrangements to have a spinners clinic for school-children in the district. Having identified the importance of correct techniques of spin bowling, a group under-15 cricketers who played in the recently concluded under-15 group will be given an opportunity to attend this programme. Malcolm Perera former director of Sri Lanka Cricket coaching along with other coaches will conduct this programme.

Inaugural inter-house scrabble

The inaugural inter-house scrabble tournament of Trinity College was held a few days back for junior and senior houses. It was worked off at the school auditorium. Junior houses; 1st Sahyam, 2nd Pilcher, 3rd Saunders, 4th Squeallary and 5th Gibson. Senior houses; 1st Oorloff, 2nd Central boarding house, 3rd Lemuel, 4th Simitharachchy, 5th Garret.

Slica beat Kandy Indian HC staff

Kalyana Sri Lanka India Cultural Association (SLICA) beat Kandy branch of the Indian Assistant High Commission, in a softball ten over cricket match played at the Municipal Council PT Rajan play ground, popularly known as Rakade ground. Kalyana SLICA scored 94 for 6 wickets in their 10 overs. Dr. Senthil Chandrasekeran scored 26 with three hits to the ropes and two over it. V. Prabakar took 3 wickets.

In reply, India Assistant High Commission office staff scored 92 runs for 5 in their ten overs and fell short by three runs.

Lazarus laid to rest

A large crowd were seen paying their last respects at the funeral of Alex Lazarus. Many of his rugby students were among those in attendance at his burial. Alex had given his heart for rugby as a player and coach.

Trinity U-14 hockey champions

At the all island schools under-14 hockey tournament organized by the Sri Lanka Schools Hockey Association saw Trinity win the under-14 gold when they beat Hindu College Matale, St. Benedict’s Colombo, S Thomas’ College and Uva MV. The hockey presented by the Trinity team was excellent and a big hand should go to coach M. Ashroff for the job well done. M. Aaqeel was the highest goal scorer for Trinity with four goals.
