GMOA calls for foreign trade policy

The Government Medical Officers’ Association (GMOA) met Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa on Friday morning and held discussions after congratulating the Premier, GMOA Secretary Dr. Haritha Aluthge said.

According to Dr. Aluthge several key decisions were made during the meeting. A key decision was the preparation of a foreign trade policy and steps to be taken to look into the issue of the Free Trade Agreement signed with Singapore.

The Prime Minister promised not to take the proposed Counter Terrorism Act with existing suppressing laws against trade unions and civil organisations. Steps will be taken to make the public service more attractive and protect the national wages policy, he said.

Arrangements will be made to allow and encourage professionals to serve the country more effectively. Steps also will be taken to let the Sri Lanka Medical

Council (SLMC) to function as an independent body without interference.

The KDU Act will be fully implement and SAITM will be closed down according to the decisions made during the meeting, he added.
