Upcountry Lions roar at Slave Island

18 November, 2018

Upcountry Lions SC from Nawalapitiya came up with a great performance to

outplay Java Lane SC by two goals to nil in a Dialog Champions League fixture at the City Football League ground yesterday.

The first half was evenly contested by both teams and they returned to the pavilion for lemons with a blank score card.

The first 15 minutes of the game saw Java Lane strikers go on the attack and had many shots at goal but all were thwarted by the visitors’ goal keeper while the defence line too did their job in an excellent manner to defend their territory.

The second half saw the home team get back to their game in a serious way and had attempts at the goal but failed to find the target. Once again their efforts failed to bring in results. Both sides played attacking soccer for nearly sixteen minutes and the captain of Upcountry Lions Roshan Manusha found the net at this stage to put his side into a 1-0 lead.

The home team tried everything they had in store to find the equalizer but failed to achieve. With only fifteen minutes left for the final whistle the home team was penalized for rough play inside the box and the visitors were awarded a penalty.

Foreign player from Ghana Jon Evas Paha made no mistake with the kick which increased the lead 2-0 at the final whistle.
