The famous Il Maha Perahera Mangalyaya the religious procession of the Ruhunu Maha Kataragama Devalaya began parading the streets on Friday (23), in keeping with the centuries-old tradition. According to the Acting Basnayake Nilame, Dilruwan Rajapakshe, this procession, the second important event in the Devalaya calendar, is held to invoke blessings on the country as well as the devotees.
