A classical Christmas fantasy

9 December, 2018

An enchanting, romantic and jubilant musical evening featuring Classical Baritone Gehan Cooray from Los Angeles, and Soprano Dhanushi Wijeyakulasuriya from Pennsylvania will be held on December 19, 2018 at 7.30 pm. The event will be hosted by Jetwing Colombo Seven.

Gehan Cooray’s repertoire as an actor and singer encompasses Opera, Broadway Musicals, Film, and Theatre. Gehan’s most recent feature film enabled him to act alongside the five time Emmy Award winning actress Heather Tom from ‘The Bold and the Beautiful’, and he is currently recording an album in Los Angeles.

Gehan has also directed and performed in operatic works, such as, Mozart’s ‘The Marriage of Figaro’ and Rossini’s ‘The Barber of Seville’, portraying the villainous Count Almaviva and the heroic Figaro, respectively, while Dhanushi performed the roles of Susanna and Rosina in the same operatic productions with Gehan.

Dhanushi has presented several vocal recitals in Pennsylvania, the most recent being “Dream With Me” in April 2018. Here in Colombo, she also played the role of Christine Daae in Jerome de Silva’s production of ‘The Phantom of the Opera’, before moving to the U.S.

This very special “Classical Christmas Fantasy” program will consist a range of operatic and classical pieces by Mozart, Donizetti, Schubert, and Ambroise Thomas, as well as, songs from the American Musical Theatre repertoires of Jerome Kern, Leonard Bernstein, Kander and Ebb, et. al. The audience will be treated to a whole spectrum of perennial Christmas Carols and Nativity hymns, including, ‘Angels We Have Heard On High’, ‘Adeste Fideles’, ‘Let It Snow, ‘O Holy Night’, ‘Silent Night’, ‘What Child Is This?’ and ‘Joy To The World’. Select verses of the more traditional carols will be sung in Latin and French.
