Ceylinco Healthcare Services (CHS), a pioneer in the private sector Healthcare industry launched the Varian Clinac iX, an advanced linear accelerator, at a ceremony at the Ceylinco Healthcare Services Centre in Colombo recently.

The Rs. 325 million state-of-the-art machine is the newest addition to the company’s advanced range of cancer treatment. The Clinac iX has over 5,000 installations worldwide.

Ceylinco Healthcare Services Chairman R. Renganathan said over 80 patients per month could be treated with the latest machines and the Tomo Therapy Hi.Art machine. CHS which provides healthcare to patients from the Maldives and Seychelles has saved over US $ 5 million of foreign exchange over the past 10 years at an annual rate of around US $ 500,000.

“We treat over 50 patients a month and thereby save a large amount of foreign exchange being drained from the country for treatment overseas each year,” Renganathan said, adding that treatment is planned by a physicist and delivered by radiation therapists with over 15 years of experience.

Varian Clinac iX is a stable machine for cancer treatment combining advanced medical imaging technology with ground-breaking radiation therapy techniques, creating a comprehensive treatment solution for a wide variety of cancer types and locations.

“The machine operates with pinpoint accuracy to minimise damage to surrounding tissues during treatment and its advanced motion tracking capabilities lets it deliver radiation to any part of the body without having to undergo uncomfortable braces,” an official of the company said.

The treatment with Clinac iX is a non-invasive procedure with no scars and little to no recovery period. The machine provides an effective and convenient treatment of cancer at any part of the body without having to undergo surgery. Patients are exposed to shorter beam time better targeting of tumors, and the possibility of a lesser number of treatments.

The Clinac iX can treat breast, abdominal, lung and prostrate cancers effectively. The Ceylinco Healthcare Services Centre which reached a milestone by treating 5,000 patients, is recognised as the most experienced cancer treatment centre in the country with over a decade of experience in radiation treatment.

Patients can also obtain Tomotherapy treatment, an advanced cancer treatment method and Brachytherapy and lodine treatment, at CHS. All treatment at CHS is administered in a comfortable and homely environment ensuring patients and loved ones can be close to each another.
