The latest batch of Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) volunteers arrived in Sri Lanka recently. The young Japanese volunteers are here to provide services in their specific fields of expertise.

The batch of nine JICA volunteers will provide services in fields which include environmental education (Kandy and Kundasale), Baseball (Kandy), photography (Colombo), soccer (Jaffna), elderly care (Batticaloa), primary education(Mannar), dress making (Jaffna) and marketing ( Jaffna). The volunteers will be attached to institutions under the ministries.

Eight of the nine volunteers will work in Sri Lanka for two years, while the other will be in the country for 20 months.

There are 60 volunteers working in the nine provinces. Over 1,100 JICA volunteers have served in the country since the introduction of the program in 1981.
