Highways Ministry exposé: Payments for bogus employees

Monthly payments ranging from Rs. 25,000-Rs. 125,000 made illegally to 44 outsiders by fraudulently treating them as employees of Maga Neguma under the purview of the Highways Ministry has been exposed.

Sources told the Sunday Observer that these payments had been made from January, 2016 to March, 2018 to people ranging from a manager of Marga Sathiya project, two Kandy district project coordinators, 19 outsiders designated as Project Coordinators and Operation Assistants and another 23 people designated as Sales and Marketing Representatives.

The person designated as the Kandy District Project Coordinator had been paid a monthly salary of Rs.125,000 plus a vehicle and 300 litres of fuel while another called Project Manager of Marga Sathiya program had been paid Rs. 50,000 and provided a vehicle with 300 litres of fuel.

According to the sources, 19 people drew a Rs. 50,000 monthly salary as Project Coordinators and Operation Assistants of Maga Neguma. Another 23 people, the Sales and Marketing Representatives had been paid a monthly allowance of Rs. 25,000.
