Unbeaten Hatton National Bank were crowned champions at the Dialog National Netball Championship when they defeated Air Force SC 47-27 in the final concluded at the Sir Albert F Pieris Indoor Stadium in Wennappuwa yesterday.
It was Air Force who opened the scoring when goal shooter Dulangi Dhanaji scored after receiving a good pass from goal attacker Rashmi Perera. HNB came back and after some good cohesive play went into the lead in the first quarter, 10-7.
HNB responded well in the second quarter as well scoring the first two points and going on to increase their lead. Air Force could score only seven points in this quarter as well. HNB led 22-14 at half time.
HNB centre Gayanjani Amarawansa made some useful passes that helped them to increase on their lead.
HNB dominated the latter stages of the third quarter to take a 35-21 lead into the final 15 minutes.
The fourth quarter saw HNB dominate and score 12 points as against six by Air Force to give them a final scoreline of 47 points to 27.
Third place match was called off due to the Army SC team not being present at the venue and Seylan Bank who overcome Army SC in the second round was awarded the third place title. Amali Nanayakkara, Group Chief Marketing Officer, Dialog Axiata PLC graced the final as the chief guest and gave away the trophies. President of the Sri Lanka Netball Federation Trixi Nanayakkara and vice president Luxmi Victoria also graced the occasion.
