Sri Lanka opened its tour of New Zealand with five ducks which occurred at a three-day match in Napier yesterday.

The batsmen dismissed for ducks were Dhanushka Gunathilaka, Niroshan Dickwella, Roshane Silva, Kusal Mendis and Dilruwan Perera against an unknown New Zealand X1 team.

Only Angelo Mathews with 128 did something worthwhile as Sri Lanka declared at 210 for 9 in the match which is the only game ahead of the first Test starting in Wellington on December 15.

In reply the home team reached 67 for 4.

Mathews made his runs with 19 fours and three sixes while the rest failed with the bat.

Skipper Dinesh Chandimal made 26 while Dhananjaya de Silva made 14.

Three of the wickets fell to 22-year old slow left arm Chinaman spinner Blake Coburn.

Sri Lanka is listed to play two Tests against New Zealand with the second stating on December 26 in Christchurch.
