The Veterans’ Athletics Open Championship organized by the Veterans’ Sports Association of the Southern Province for the first time is scheduled to be held at the District Sports Complex in Kotawila, Matara on February 9 and 10, 2019.
The age categories to be contested are under-35 years open, under-40 years, under-45 years, under-50 years, under-55 years, under-60 years, under-65 years, under -70 years, under 75-years, under-80 years, under-85 years, under-90 years and over-90 years.
The events to be worked off will be the 100 metres, 200 metres, 400 metres, 800 metres, 1500 metres, 5000 metres, 10,000 metres, 110 metres hurdles, 100 metres hurdles, 80 metres hurdles, 400 metres hurdles, 300 metres hurdles, 200 metres hurdles, long jump, high jump, triple jump, pole-vault, shot putt, discus throw, Javelin throw, hammer throw and race walking.
The closing date for entries is December 25, 2018 and applications received after the due date will be rejected according to the organisers.

The Veterans’ Sport Association – Southern Province, will award Cups and and trophies for the best sportsman and woman of each age category besides the all-island championship and runner-up trophies to public institutions, private institutions, sports associations and provinces which score the highest points.
