The Vendor of Sweets

16 December, 2018

The Vendor of Sweets is an interesting novel which I read recently. It is written by R.K. Narayan and was first published by Viking in1967. The novel is set in the fictional city of Malgudi in India.

The story tells us about Jagan who is a traditional vendor of sweets and his son Mali. The novel mainly talks about the conflict between a father and son. But the author also explores the contrast between tradition and modernity and about the gap between cultures.

The novel teaches us that courage is required to face difficult situations in life. I find this story interesting because it taught me that communication is valuable in a relationship.
