16 December, 2018

The Hirdaramani Group recently partnered HelpAge Sri Lanka to provide free healthcare services for parents of its associates. Organised through the Hirdaramani Family Memorial Trust, HelpAge Sri Lanka carried out camps for facilities within its Knit and Woven clusters.

Associates at the facilities brought their parents to the free health camps consisting of eye and medical check ups and subsequent treatment. Persons were provided with cataract surgeries, bifocal and reading spectacles as well as necessary treatment for blood pressure and diabetic conditions.

HelpAge Sri Lanka is a not for profit Non-Governmental Organization working for and on behalf of disadvantaged senior citizens in Sri Lanka to improve their quality of life.

Director, Hirdaramani Group and Trustee, Hirdaramani Memorial Trust Nikhil Hirdaramani said “The Hirdaramani family has always regarded its associates as part of its extended family and acknowledges the role that their families play in supporting it. We also feel that we have a responsibility to support wider community initiatives and have done so throughout our 128-year history. We hope this partnership can help improve the health conditions of the elderly resulting in increased life expectancy in Sri Lanka.”

Douglas Paranawithana of HelpAge Sri Lanka said, “Fading vision and deteriorating health are some of the common complaints among the elderly. HelpAge Sri Lanka is pleased to partner Hirdaramani Group to improve vision and offer advice on illnesses to parents of Hirdaramani employees at its Knit and Woven clusters. HelpAge is on an aggressive drive to improve eye health among the elderly across Sri Lanka. We value the support provided by Hirdaramani to our cause and to the parents of its employees.”

Medical and Eye Camps are conducted islandwide in order to provide free health and eye care services to vulnerable senior citizens. HelpAge Sri Lanka’s dedicated team of doctors examine patients, conduct necessary medical tests and provide medical advice. These patients are also entitled to free medication. Alongside these medical camps, they also provide free eye check-ups by qualified optometrists and free spectacles to those in need.
