S. Thomas’ College, Mount Lavinia emerged victorious in what was called the Festival of Cricket of Prince Alfred College Adelaide for the Chappell Brothers’ Challenge Trophy competing against leading cricket playing schools in Australia, including Prince Alfred College and St. Peter’s College Adelaide that feature in the longest uninterrupted cricket fixture in the world spanning 143 years.

The T20 format of the final was shortened due to inclement weather to a 10 over game and the Thomians got off to a flying start with Dulith Gunaratne scoring 31 and Shalin de Mel scoring 51 to help them reach a score of 131 in 10 overs.

In reply St. Peter’s College were restricted to 75 for 7 in the 10 overs as Thomian fast bowler Tehan Schaffter took a wicket off the second ball of the innings and ended with figures of 2 for 9 while Dulith Gunaratne bowled a brilliant spell taking 3/12.

St. Peter’s College scored only 21 runs for five wickets in the first four overs.

The Thomians remained unbeaten in all six matches played during the tournament as Kalana Perera was awarded the trophy for the best bowler of the tournament.
