Ruwangi Fernando, Puttalam’s Woman Entrepreneur 2018

Ruwangi Fernando who built Adeem Uniform of Saudi Arabia into a dynamic employer and a 100 percent export-based entity in the North Western Province, won the Woman Entrepreneur Award 2018 at the Annual Awards organised by the Puttalam District Chamber of Commerce at Suriya Resort in Waikkal, recently.

Adeem which was set up 35 years ago in the United Arab Emirates, opened its BOI-registered manufacturing facility at the Noorani Industrial Estate in Waikkakal three years ago. The company supplies uniforms to the UAE and 70 percent of its exports are school uniforms supplied to over 100 schools in the Middle East. The company also supplies uniforms to hospitals, armed forces, factories and offices. The company Country Manager Ruwangi Fernando said that she is happy to have clinched two awards - Overall winner of the women’s category and the Gold winner at the large-scale business category.

The company Chairperson and Director Alia Al Sudairi commended Ruwangi’s achievement.

Ruwangi, who heads the operation in Sri Lanka, thanked the contributions of the Board of Directors, the management, the customers and committed workforce for achieving its award within a short period. She thanked her father Nelson Fernando, a pioneer in the apparel industry under whose tutelage she gained experience for over 15 years.
