Sri Lanka Tourism officials at Mumbai travel exhibition

Sri Lanka Tourism made its presence felt at the India International Travel and Tourism Exhibition in Mumbai, India last week.

Minister of Tourism Development, Wildlife and Christian Religious Affairs, John Amaratunga was the chief guest at the opening of the Sri Lanka pavilion.

Head of Relationships and Supplier Management – Cox and Kings, Karan Anand, Consul General of Indonesia Ade Sukendar, the President, Tour Operator Association of India Mahendra Vakaria, President Enterprising Travel Agents Association of India Jagat Meheta, President- Travel Agents Association of India (TAAI) Sunil Kumar, Senior Advisor to the Minister Amaratunga, Felix Rodrigo, Chamari Rodrigo, and members of the Tourism industry were present.

Minister Amaratunga also met heads of India’s tourism and travel industry associations on the sidelines of the exhibition.

He held meetings with Chairman, Western India Chapter, Jitul Mehta, Secretary General of Tour Agents Federation of India (TAFI), Gladwin Pinto and officials on how India could promote ‘Destination Sri Lanka’, in the Indian market.

The Minister called upon TAFI representatives to explore the facilities in Sri Lanka for MICE Tourism. The TAFI convention is due to be held in Colombo in June. India International Travel and Tourism Exhibition or IITT is a leading travel, tourism and hospitality exhibition in India.

Launched in 2014, IITT is the only exhibition in the country that covers all aspects of tourism which includes travel trade, MICE, large corporates and wedding planners.

Meetings were also held with key wedding planners and the Indian media. Minister Amaratunga called their support to promote Sri Lanka as a wedding destination.
