Havies down arch rival CR

Havelocks as expected beat arch rival CR and FC by 31 points to 24 in their second round inter club Dialog League rugby match at Havelock Park yesterday.

Havelocks always had the match in control and only once did CR lead when they opened the scoring for a 7-0 lead through a try by Rahul de Silva that was converted.

But after Havelocks hit back with a try to level the scores there were no doubts who the winner would be as the Park Club kept scoring at regular intervals after taking a 14-7 lead at half time.

Fifteen minutes before the end CR were able to draw level at 19-19 but two tries by Havelocks through Mithum Hapugoda and Dushmantha Priyadharshana off a rolling maul sealed the match for the home team who surged into a 31-19 lead.

In the dying moments of the game CR scored an unconverted try through Mithila Perera before referee Priyantha Gunaratne blew his final whistle.
