Kandy SC hauled up for inquiry

Sri Lanka Rugby has called for an inquiry to probe unruly incidents that were reported to have taken place at last week’s Dialog League rugby championship match between Kandy SC and Army SC at Nittawela in Kandy.

In a damning report to Sri Lanka Rugby, Match Commissioner Kavinda Jayasena stated that he and other officials were subjected to intimidation and abuse at the hands of Kandy supporters who are also said to have invaded the pitch.

Kandy lost the match in a shock result.

Chairman of the Disciplinary Committee retired Senior Superintendent of Police Ibrahim Hamid has summoned Jayasena and Sub Official YMS Ratnayake along with the chairman of Kandy SC Lasantha Wijesuriya, team physio Lasantha Basnayake, club secretary Sujeewa Liyanage and a Kandy supporter identified as Ralph Sharratt.

The inquiry will be held on Monday in Colombo.
