With rugby referees in Sri Lanka coming under intense public scrutiny and most players feeling discouraged by their presence, Sri Lanka Rugby has decided to enlist yet another referee from overseas to officiate at two inter club League matches next week.
Lawrence Wilkinson, a New Zealander based in Hong Kong and a member of the elite Asia Panel, will referee the CR and FC versus Kandy SC match at Longden Place on February 9 followed by the match between Havelocks and CH and FC at the Racecourse ground in Colombo on February 10.
Havelocks and Kandy appear to be the only two teams in the running for the top prize in the club scene but CH and FC and CR and FC believe they could upset both favourites for a place in the semi finals given the nature of the tournament where the top four sides in the eight-team format play in a knock-out stage.
