Airman Warnakulasuriya wins Hendala cycle race

Buddhika Warnakulasuriya from the Air Force won the Standard Cycle race organized by Flying Wheel Cycle Club along with Gampaha Cycling Association to mark the 71st Independence Day celebrations.

He won the event in a close contest ahead of Viran Ramesh and Sumudu Sandaruwan who were just two seconds behind. Warnakulasuriya clocked 2 hours 24 minutes one second to complete the 98 kilo metre event which was contested by 117 riders including of under-23 riders.

Flying Wheel Club organized the event as part of their 35th anniversary celebrations. Western Province Council Member Daulton Janaka Suriyabandara was the main sponsor of the event. Flying Wheel Cycling Club also felicitated two veteran cyclists Boniface Perera, AM Sumanaweera and two of Sri Lanka’s leading women cyclists Wasantha Kahapolaarachchi and PL Ranjini and the up-and-coming young junior female rider Anne Shenali Fernando for their services and keen interest for cycling in Sri Lanka.

The awards presentation was graced by Nimal Koralage the president of the Flying Wheel Cycle Club and Sumith Balasuriya the president of the Gampaha District Cycling Association.
