India to invade Colombo Triathlon with 54 athletes

The second edition of the So Sri Lanka Ironman 70.3 Triathlon organized by ProAm in association with the Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau will take place on February 24 in Colombo with nearly 750 competitors from 58 countries as well as local athletes contesting.

India has the highest number of competitors with 54 athletes while Britain 54, Australia 40, France 34 and Japan 24 follow.

There will also be athletes from USA, Malaysia, Singapore, Germany, Russia and

Maldives and the oldest competitor will be a 76-year old male and the youngest is 18 years. Some 25 female athletes are also in the fray with a view to targeting the World Championships in France later this year.

The most interesting competitor at the event will be the one time women's triathlon Champion Julie Moss.

Shangrila Hotel will be the hotel partner for the second successive year.

Chairman of Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau Kishu Gomes said that though he is a newcomer to the Sr Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau he had no difficulty in associating with the

event as the organizing team comprising of Rajan Thananayagam, Yasas Hewage and Julian Bolling have done a superb job in making the event happen in a smooth way.

"They have made many changes to run the event in an attractive manner to please the participants this year who will take back the message that Sri Lanka is a peaceful place to visit," said Gomes.
