Sri Lanka Telecom (SLT) and Fon, a wi-fi provider in Madrid, Spain, recently signed an agreement enabling SLT to deliver Wi-Fi connectivity to their subscriber base and for Fontech’s carrier-grade WSMP to deliver seamless Wi-Fi access locally.

SLT has also signed a roaming agreement with Fon to grant their users international access to Wi-Fi in over 23 million locations around the world.

Sri Lanka Telecom CEO Kiththi Perera said, “Our partnership with Fon will help us to deliver a better connectivity experience for our customers. Fon’s technology will complement our services through delivering seamless Wi-Fi outside of the home and offer our customers the convenience of being able to access millions of Fon hotspots globally.

We extend our support to the Government’s initiative to increase the internet penetration in the country. We are focused on improving our services indoor and outdoor.” SLT will integrate into Customer premises Equipment (CPE) models over FTTH, ADSL and LTE technologies with the help of Fontech’s technology. SLT will provide customers with several different access alternatives to login to these Wi-Fi hotspots, including Mobile App, through a captive portal, through Wireless Internet Service Provider roaming (WISPr) seamless connectivity, and through Extensible Authentication Protocol (EAP).

Fon CEO Alex Puregger said, “We are delighted that Sri Lanka Telecom has chosen our innovative technology to deploy their Wi-Fi strategy. The deal is a good example of our commitment to the Wi-Fi ecosystem.

While Fon continues to specialise in the aggregation of Wi-Fi networks, ensuring that the world’s largest community network continues to grow, Fontech is dedicated to developing the technology that operates the service.”
