Shangri-La’s Hambantota Golf Resort and Spa will be the new venue for the Junior Golf Tournament to be held on March 3 and 4 with a practice game on 2.

This will be the first golf tournament to be held in Hambantota which was made possible through a dialogue between Prima Group and Shangri-La who will be the title sponsor and hospitality partners.

Shangri-La’s Hambantota Golf Resort and Spa is spread across a vast coconut plantation. The par-70, 18-hole course offers a spectacular view of the Indian Ocean, with distinctive challenges for both beginners and seasoned players. It was designed by the globally celebrated designer, Rodney Wright. The first ever Regional Junior Open was played in 2013 in Kandy followed by Eagles Golf Links, China Bay and Trincomalee.

“Sri Lanka Golf is excited to take the tournament to Hambantota for the first time. This initiative has been the brainchild of the Junior Sub Committee of Sri Lanka Golf where the Regional tournaments have been created as a platform for junior golfers to compete at both Regional and National levels to show their young talent for national and international representation.

“Also the numbers have grown with the popularity of the game island-wide due to the outreach programs carried out by Sri Lanka Golf to propagate the sport at grass root level. They have reached out to areas like Killinochchi, Anuradhapura, Diyatalawa, Welisara, Kandy and Nuwara Eliya,” said Niloo Jayatilleke Chairperson Junior Sub Committee, Sri Lanka Golf.
