Airtel’s Fastest bowler syndrome gathers pace

Airtel’s Fastest, an innovative project to unearth Sri Lanka’s fastest bowler has gathers pace with the ambassadors moving to Batticaloa today where they will be holding auditions for the fastest amateur schoolboy and girl in the island.

Auditions take place between 8 am and 5 pm and anyone between the ages of 16 and 24 is eligible to contest and prove his or her prowess where the successful candidates will be able to dream of making to the Sri Lanka team to take on the world’s best batsmen.

On March 7 the bandwagon will travel towards Matara where a clinic will be conducted at the Sanath Jayasuriya ground and on March 9 the Vincent Dias stadium in Badulla will play host to the programme.

Hopeful or aspiring fast bowlers in Ruwanwella will get their chance to showcase themselves when the examiners move to the Pradeshya Saba ground and on March 14 and 15 it will be the turn of youngsters in Gampaha to come out. The Mawathagama Pradeshiya Saba ground in the Kurunegala district will host the event on March 18 and on March 21 the Gatembe ground in Kandy will have its turn.

The Public Ground in Horana and Thurstan College ground in Colombo will be the venue for the budding fast bowlers on March 24 and March 27-28 respectively.

Organisers hope to discover as many as a hundred potential fast bowlers who will then be put through Airtel’s Super Star coaching team made up of Lasith Malinga, Anusha Samaranayake and Chaminda Vaas after which they will be put through a series of challenges to select the fastest in each category.

Details of trial locations and dates as well as applications for the competition can be found on Airtel’s facebook page ‘airtellife’ and the organisers have also ensured that registrations can be done on the day of the event at the respective locations.

Participants are required to bring along a photo for identification when registering.
