Dharmaraja, Vidyartha and Sri Sumangala win opening matches

Dharmaraja College beat St. Sylvester’s College, Sri Sumangala College beat Ananda College and Vidyartha College beat Mahanama College in three inter school league rugby matches played in Kandy.

Vidyartha College completed a smashing victory over Mahanama College by 75 points (10 goals and 1 try) to 20 (2 goals and 2 penalties) at Nittawela.

Vidyartha had a real game plan and enjoyed a large amount of possession and got into business from the kick-off and dominated play.

Their forwards were simply outstanding and went on to lead 49-0 at half time.

Dharmaraja College cleared their first hurdle in their opening rugby game against St. Sylvester’s College at Pallekelle. They put up a pleasing performance to score 38 points (4 goals and 3 tries) to 21 (3 goals). At half time the Rajans led 24/7 as the Sylvestrians did not live up to expectations and missed the ball many times.

Sri Sumangala College created an upset while overcoming the fancied Ananda outfit by 32 points off (4 goals and 2 penalties) to 18 (1 goal, 1 try and 2 penalty kicks). At half time Sri Sumangala led 17 -6.
