Foreigners made of ‘iron’ as Sri Lankans fold up

Luxemburg’s leading businessman, 44-year old Olivier Godart who clocked a time of 04:05:06 at the So Sri Lanka Ironman contest carried away the trophy on offer for the best triathlete last Sunday in Colombo.

Not a single Sri Lankan from more than 600 who took part in the event were able to end up in the top ten places, men and women.

Godart completed the 1.9 kilometer swim, 90 kilo meter biking and the half marathon ahead of all other athletes in all three events clocking fastest times in all three disciplines. He was followed by Australia’s Tim Ballintine 04:10:13 and Britain’s Pierre Lafayeedney 4.20. 22. In the women’s category it was Singapore’s Ling Er Choo who had the best time of 04:41:39 as she outclassed Kimberly Mckinney 04:43:22 of Australia and Inge Prasetyo 04:52:32 of Indonesia.

In the team event it was the Sri Lanka Navy’s team comprising of Ashwin Dorenegama 04.41.18, Asith Perera and Sampath Bandara who took the title. Ashwin was declared the best Sri Lankan triathlete at the event.

Thousands of foreign supporters spectators and many local fans enjoyed a fantastically organized event conducted in a carnival atmosphere.

So Sri Lanka IRONMAN 70.3 Colombo was organized by Pro Am Serendib and the title sponsor of the event was Sri Lanka Tourism Promotions Bureau. Partner organizations for the event included Shangri-La Colombo, MAS, Sri Lankan Airlines, Ceylinco, Hayleys Tours, Advantis and Asiri hospital.

Results (Solo): Men: 1 Olivier Godart 04:05:06 (Luxembourg age 40-44), 2. Tim Ballintine 04:10:13 (Australia age 30-34), 3. Pierre Lafayeedney (United Kingdom age 35-39)

Women (Solo): 1. Ling Er Choo (1) 04:41:39 (Singapore age 30-34), 2. Kimberly Mckinney 04:43:22 (Australia age 30-34), 3. Inge Prasetyo 04:52:32 (Indonesia age 35-39)

Men’s Relay: 1. Sri Lanka Navy 04:01:14 Sri Lanka Relay, 2. Team Foundation Of Goodness 04:26:25 Sri Lanka Relay, 3. Team Lekka Tri 04:33:43 UAE Relay

Top Sri Lankan Men’s results: 1. Ashwin Dorenegama 04.41.18 (Sri Lanka age 18-24), 2. Asith Perera 04:43:12 (Sri Lanka age 30-34), 3. Sampath Bandara 04.44.14 (Sri Lanka age 18-24)
