Jaffna big match ends in draw

The 113th Battle of Jaffna between St. John’s College and Jaffna Central College played at the Central College ground ended in a draw yesterday.

St. John’s first innings total of 181 was boosted by a superb innings of 98 from D. Theivendran with Ilayarasa Kamalarsa taking bowling honors with 5 for 54.

Their second innings saw two half centuries bring them 242 runs. Jaffna Central scoring 194 had a slender lead of 14 runs in the first innings.

Chasing a target of 221 runs for victory the Centralites could muster only 176/7 at close with Mathusan Selvarasa scoring an unbeaten 53.
