Florence Nightingale was born to an English family on May 12, 1820 in Tuscany, Italy. She wanted to become a nurse and went to a nursing school to receive training. After becoming a trained nurse, Florence attended to many wounded soldiers. She was called ‘The lady with the lamp’ because she carried a lamp on her night rounds. She was awarded the ‘Order of Merit’ for her services. She passed away on August 13, 1910.
