Tug-O-War, which was included in the National Sports Calendar as a discipline has been scrapped from this year and the Tug-of-War Association has taken a decision to conduct the national Championship in two stages.
The first stage will be held on a district basis and the two top teams from each district will qualify to take part in the nationals to be held in mid November. This decision was taken on March 1 with the intention of giving an opportunity for all interested to be engaged in the sport. The Association has appointed coordinating officers for all districts who take charge of conducting these events at that level.
The first District level competition is to take place in Dankotuwa in Puttalam district on March 17 (today) according to Anusha Rajapakse who is the coordinator for the event.(PB)
