Prima Ceylon celebrates 40 years in Sri Lanka

Prima Ceylon, the flagship company of Prima Group Sri Lanka celebrated four decades of successful partnerships in Sri Lanka recently , and is looking forward to continuing its tradition of innovation, quality, and excellence, for many years to come.

The 40th anniversary celebration of the company was held in Trincomalee, where its State-of-the-Art flour milling complex and one of the largest flour Mills in the world, both under one roof, is located.

Over the last four decades, Prima has played an important role in helping to bolster Sri Lanka’s food security, foreign reserves, employment opportunities, the local bakery industry and related industries, while staying true to its corporate purpose of ‘We provide solutions to help you grow’.

To mark its 40th year in Sri Lanka, Pima Ceylon launched a program to recognise and celebrate innovative and successful Sri Lankans within the food industry across the country, with the aim of inspiring future entrepreneurs and businesses to continue to raise the standards of the country’s bakery and wheat flour based industrial sectors.

The program titled ‘Your progress – Our Pride’ featured local entrepreneurs who have built thriving businesses over the past 40 years, creating job opportunities, contributing to the local economy, supporting local communities and innovating in the industry. The program shares the remarkable stories of these unsung heroes of the country, detailing their lives trials, lesson and success.

“This follows an earlier announcement by Prima to establish a SGD 2 million scholarship with the Singapore Management University, for Sri Lankan undergraduates, as part of its 40 years partnership with the island.

This fund was further supported by another SGD 1million by the Singapore Government, totaling the value of the scholarship to SGD 3 million.”

Prima Group General Manager Tan Beng Chuan said this year marks 40 years of Singaporean-Sri Lankan cooperation, 40 years of foreign direct investment in Sri Lanka, 40 years of Prima progressing together with the country and importantly, 40 years of connections, partnerships and moments with Sri Lankan’s around the country using and consuming high quality Prima flour.

Prima has always put great emphasis on its relationship with suppliers, employees and customers and its goal is to keep expanding businesses in Sri Lanka and to penetrate new export markets with a wide range of high value-added Prima flour.

Prima is well regarded and known for its dedication to providing a quality flour that adheres to the strictest controls on quality. Prima is a major producer of flour in Sri Lanka and its flour milling complex at Trincomalee has a high efficiency grain milling capacity of 3,650 mt per day. General Manager, Prima Ceylon (Pvt) Ltd, Ong Jhon Seon said, “Throughout the years, we have worked in collaboration with our partners to develop and innovate not just products, but the industry as a whole, ensuring that we have grown together by meeting the evolving needs of the Sri Lankan consumer.”

Prima’s current investment in Sri Lanka amounts to US $ 240 million and the company will continue to explore new opportunities to develop its operations in Sri Lanka.
