Water for Ampara paddy cultivation from April 1

Water will be provided for paddy cultivation in the Ampara District in the Yala season from April 1, Irrigation Engineer-in-charge of the Akkaraipattu Region T. Mayooran said.

Cultivators have been called upon to use water sparingly. The cultivation meeting for the Yala season, attended by the officers of the Agriculture Department, Irrigation Department, Agrarian Services, farmer organisation officials and other interested partners, was held at the Akkaraipattu Divisional Secretariat presided over by Ampara District Secretary D.M.L.Bandaranayake recently.

Some 24,000 acres of paddy and 5,466 acres of sugarcane will be cultivated in the region. Tillage for paddy and sowing will continue until April 5.
