The nearest school is the best school

It has been decided to build 200 full fledged schools islandwide under the project the ‘Nearest school is the best school’ initiated by the Ministry of Education. The project is implemented under the direction of Minister of Education Akila Viraj Kariyawasam.

The project includes three-storied classroom buildings, primary learning resource centres, technical colleges of education, administrative buildings, laboratories, auditoriums, dental medical centres, aesthetic units, principals’ and teachers’ quarters in difficult areas, student hostels, technical units, multi-purpose buildings and canteens. The government has allocated nearly Rs. 3,938 million on the project.

The Ministry of Education will hold the national function of this islandwide program in the Kurunegala District under the patronage of Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe. The new three-storied buildings at St. Joseph’s College, Kuliyapitiya, a full-fledged auditorium at Saranath College, Kuliyapitiya and a new administrative building at the teacher training centre, Kuliyapitiya will be opened.

‘The nearest school is the best school’ project launched in 2016 will continue till 2020. The total estimated cost of this project is Rs. 65,000 million. Eighteen thousand projects in 9,063 of the 10,165 schools will be implemented under this program.
